worked and then it didn't

Had this freezer for 3yrs 8mo and some change. It stopped working. high temp warning sounded, we reset it, food seemed frozen. One day it wasn't. Meat was thawed, blood dripped threw out the freezer. then it re froze everything. Tossed out about 200lbs of meat. Very up set with this product.

Bought a GE upright freezer on July 5th. The freezer keeps alerting that it has a high temperature. Called for repair on July 8th. They sent out a repairman, and he ordered 2 parts. One came, and one is on backorder. Received a call on July 20th about the backorder. Bodewell (GE repair/warranty company) said they would get back to me. On July 23, I received an email stating they would get back to me on July 29th. Meanwhile, the repairman came and put in the part that came. Of course, the problem part is the one they have backordered, and now the part is not found until August 10, if they can find it. Running harder than it needs to, freezing my food and causing freezer damage, and probably burning out faster because of all this. They will not take the unit back or issue a refund. This is not customer service; they are just playing the game until you give up. The product is defective. Never worked properly from day 1. Oh, and to top it off, the first time I called the 'customer service' person told me it was because it was in the garage (garage ready unit claiming to work in 110-degree temps) then it was because other items may be plugged into the same circuit it needed a dedicated service electric line (almost no one in America has a dedicated line for a freezer in the garage. Plus, the manual does not require that, and a previous freezer worked fine there). So, the reason the freezer was not working correctly was my fault. It was broken before I got it, but it was my fault. Nice. Never buy GE again.

So far the freezer is excellent. Nice size, well lit, like the drawers,cooled down from start quickly. Like the frost free feature and it is easily accessible in the garage...garage ready was a selling point. One of the reasons we purchased from GE is we have a GE fridge/freezer in the kitchen and really love it and its features. The only minor issue I have is the shelves flex under load and therefore are a bit curved when you load them a bit. They could be a little stiffer for my tastes...I'm a mechanical engineer.

I purchased this product last year in September. A technician came here 3 times for the same reason. The high temperature alarm still comes on. The last tech told me that this product does not have a fan to have the air circulate around the compressor and told me to get a fan and let it blow on the compressor so the air will cool it down. A portable fan was bought and placed like he said and today the high heat alarm still goes off. My meat in my freezer is starting to thaw out and this is ridiculous . I need a replacement freezer with a fan to keep it cool.

We received our new freezer on July 2. On July 6 we found it had stopped getting cold. The high temp light wasn't on, the alarm hadn't gone off and we lost over $300 in food (ironically, we were replacing our 18 year old freezer because i was worried it was on its last leg and didnt want to chance loosing all The food). Big disappointment! We are on number 3 of this model, the replacement that the store sent had 3 dents in the outside so They had to send another one. They say 3rd times a charm. I sure hope so. This time I have purchased a wireless digital alarm that we put in the house to monitor the internal freezer temp. I bought this freezer for its size, the garage ready and the adjustable shelves. I liked the exterior temperate control on the outside but mistakenly thought I would be a able to see the current temp inside the freezer (which would have been great) but its only the temp setting you can see.

Failed After 5 Years

Freezer failed after about 5 years. The repairman said the compressor has seized and would have to be replaced, a repair that will cost more than $500. The GE warranty is only good for a single year so they don™€™t have much confidence in the product.

Nearly accommodated all goods stored in a 2 cubic foot smaller chest freezer. Takes less floor space than chest freezer. Door magnet seal is strong...takes 2 hands to open the door. Question: why wait some seconds to reopen the door? Frost free is great. Temp control/ display nice looking...have not used it yet. Comment: the power cord could be 2-3 feet longer...we have the unit positioned at an angle for the cord to reach the receptacle.

ordered from GE.com on 4/21/26 - delivered on 4/27/26 - delivery team un-boxed and set it up - plugged it in. Door indicator light illuminated. Didn't touch the unit until yesterday on 5/17/26. Needed to place food items into it. The thing is room temperature. Freezer not working. Come to find GE has a stingy 7-day return policy? They need to send a technician out there for them to determine why it's a bad freezer.

It holds a lot of food and it keeps it at zero. I like the clear drawer under the top shelf. I keep meat in it. The door bins work for a bag of fries or vegetables, butter etc. Useful for those Costco deals!

There are some things are the freezer that I really like. The height has more capacity in less space. The inside allows for door storage and some large rack space. Pros: Smaller foot print with more space. Rack in doors. Sturdy and reliable shelves. Cons: For the height they should have put in one more shelf. But the worst con of all is the key lock. It's really hard to tell if you have successfully locked or even unlocked the freezer. It's like here's a $1k freezer with a nickel lock.

This is my first GE freezer and so far, I'm very impressed. Wish the side door holders were wider to be able to hold more items. The glass shelves were a nice feature and the drawers are also something new to me. Love the storage capacity of my 21CF freezer. I like how the top 3 tiers are arranged and the size / depth of the in-door compartments. I also liked the small drawer feature in the middle so that little items can be frozen and not lost in a bigger shelf or drawer. I think I would much rather of had a single wire basket for the bottom tier rather than 2 plastic bins, but so far it has been very usable. I found that it only took about 4 hours for the unit to cool down to proper freezer temp after it was delivered. My previous GE freezer lasted over 35 years and I look forward to this unit lasting just as long

I haven™€™t had this freezer for long, but is nothing to not like about it. I am around it frequently and I rarely hear it running, and it is set at zero degrees. There is not a speck of frost despite the door being opened frequently. I think you could fit a polar bear in there, but that isn™€™t what I bought it for. I love it!

Replaced a smaller, obscure freezer. This GE is large, and so far has worked great, surpassing the old one in all aspects (size, efficiency). I especially love the temperature gauge on the outside and the warning alarm if the door is left open.
