drum on the dryer split at the welded seam just after the two year mark. after looking in to the problem it seems this is a very common problem with these dryers.

The drum is cracked and chunks are falling off. It™™s snagging my clothes. I™™ve never had a worse appliance and am very disappointed. Update: Bodewell scheduled service and then tried to charge me $600 to replace the drum despite the dryer being just over 2 years old! I will never buy another GE appliance. I am very disappointed in the quality and extremely expensive solution that I was offered. This is a horrible resolution. I could buy a new dryer for this price! There are 6 units in my building and all GE dryers are less than 3 years old and nearly all have had parts break. Buyers beware!!

The dryer is about average, most annoying "feature" is Eco Dry which sees to prolong the drying process instead of just drying the clothes.

The dryer is very efficient...I find, however, that I am unable to read the top directions of the dryer for choices to determine the type and amount of the drying cycle based on the clothes load .....without a step-stool !!!! to read directions !!! This is UNACCEPTABLE !!!!.
I would like some kind of readable directions added and pasted to the bottom of the dryer to facilitate easier choices for programing of the dryer

I love that it is very big inside and easy to access your clothes. The opening is wide and I'm not searching and sticking my head inside. Looking for that extra sock. Figuring out all the settings is the hardest part

After JUST ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE the dryer makes all the laundry smell like burned rubber. I've tried only using the lowest heat setting and then needing to run the dryer twice to get clothes dry, but the laundry still smells like burned rubber. It's horrible. Warranty doesn't cover the "trip cost" ($143) by their repair service, so just to get them to come out and try to fix A NEW DRYER THAT I'VE HAD FOR ONLY 1 MONTH will cost me at least $143!!!

Owned this dryer a little over 2 years and it started making a rhythmic thumping noise while drying. Looked inside and found the drum had a big crack in it on the back where it contacts the rollers. Looking up the parts to repair are almost half the cost of the dryer not including labor with no guarantee the same thing won't happen again. Into the landfill it went. Between this and the equally bad matching washer that got thrown out 4 months ago this will be my last GE appliance. GE quality has definitely gone downhill in recent years.

We bought a "stackable" washer/dryer set to give us more room in our (small) laundry area. We were quite pleased with our purchase and so far, we are not disappointed. There's still a bit more to learn in order to get max usage out of the unit, but so far...so good.

Cracked drum 2 years after buying. Big chunks breaking off. Takes forever to dry towels and blankets. Would not recommend this product or the washer that came with it. The washer™™s motherboard went out after 18 months of buying. Will not buy a GE product again.

Absolute garbage. First one delivered did not heat up. The retailer stepped up and replaced immediately. Second one proved to be a failure too. Do not waste your money. Rarely dries on auto-sensor setting. Nearly always need to restart to get clothes dried. Requested service from GE. Appointment was 6weeks out. Service tech said it threw no codes so it was working as designed. I will not be buying another GE product. Sad as virtually every other appliance in our house is a GE.

I've had very good luck with other GE appliances, so I purchased this dryer from a local store. It broke down in less than a month. It heats up, but leaves the clothes damp no matter how many times you run them through, even on the maximum settings.
A service tech came out, said he needed parts, and told me it would be at least a week before they could repair it. I'd expect better than that for a brand new product, and wouldn't recommend purchasing this one.

I really like this dryer - only issue I have is trying to figure out the right drying cycles for loads - longer dryng times didn™™t dry clothes all the way, and the quick dry cycle didn™™t either. I do recommend this dryer -

I bought a new house with the brand new washer - it crashed before the cycle ended, crashed my breaker and required an electrician to reset the breaker in th panel - then did it again before the electrician left. It sounds like I was tumbling sneakers in the cycle and it was only towels and clothes. The load never fully spinned the water out and it crashed.

Dryer works well most of the time. I like the capacity as I have a large capacity washer. It's in my non-heated basement. My husband chose this dryer without my knowledge based on reviews he'd read. I wouldn't have chosen it. I dislike the side opening door, as when it's opened I almost always end up with clothes on the floor. The dryer is constantly flashing a message of'open door' but there is no info in the owners manual regarding what this means. I've tried wiping the door, clearing the filter multiple times, slamming the door, using a brush to remove any dust from the rubber seal, rearranging the load, unplugging and replugging the dryer, etc. Eventually, it just stops giving the 'open door' message and startsworking, and I have no idea what was done or not done to make it start. In my opinion it's a major failure to not explain this and provide resolution. I'm ready to take a sledgehammer to it so that I have to get a new one. I'm currently sitting in my kitchen with wet clothes in the dryer and the 'open door' message preventing the dryer from starting. Back to the freezing basement I go to see if it's reached the end of it's temper tantrum and is ready to work.

Great machine so far. The noise level is very low and the issues I had before with my Samsung is not present on these ones at all. Size is perfect and they both look amazing. For the price this is the best deal out there.

My "companion" GE washer broke down, after approximately 18 months of service, and despite having an extended warranty, the repair people said that it would be a week and a half before they could come to my house, assess the problem, and hopefully have quick access to whatever parts may need replacement. I found this unacceptable, and I ordered a brand new washer.
Since I was into the project pretty deeply, at that point, and my dryer had begun to get a bit noisy, I decided to replace it, too. It was a GFD55GSSNWW.
Because my then current dryer, also a GFD55GSSNWW was tucked into my laundry room, in an awkward position, I decided to replace the dryer, too, hoping to eliminate the need to struggle to get it out of the laundry room, should it die in the not too distant future.
I decided to purchase another GFD55GSSNWW. This turned out to be a questionable decision, as after the install crew installed the new unit, followed by the new washer, they then went to test both units, before leaving. At this point, we found out that THE BRAND NEW DRYER wouldn't work!
I had dirty laundry piled up, so the crew managed to lift the dryer over the washer (!!!), reinstall my old dryer, so I could at least wash the accumulated clothes, and they brought another unit the next day. They then had to lift the old one out, going over the washer, and lift the new one in place. So far, it's working fine, but I can help have doubts about long term reliability in the back of my mind.
And I have to both applaud, as well as feel pity, for the crew that had to physically lift the dryers, TWICE, to get them in and out of my somewhat cramped laundry room.

We are happy with this dryer. It has a large capacity and multiple useful settings. Performance is very good. I don't have to use a high setting for any loads, which is better for fabrics. It is very quiet. The one feature missing is related to sound notification when the load has ended: you have to set it every time, and it is not loud enough
